“Of all the liars in the world, sometimes the worst are our own fears.”
― Rudyard Kipling
Let’s talk about self-honesty. You are the easiest person to fool. You can spin any story inside your head to fit your motivations, your desires, reaffirm your biases and beliefs, and appease your sense of homeostasis…unfortunately. Your fears might be the worst of all, keeping you from going after your hopes and dreams and holding you firmly planted to solid ground.
Fortunately, however, there is a path forward to better discipline, less procrastination, and a path forward towards the things we want to achieve.
It’s self- honesty.
It’s taking responsibility for where we are, how we got here, and what the hell we need to do to move forward. Save your excuses; they are no longer welcome here (“here” meaning inside your own head).
Health: If you’ve got weight to lose, re-evaluate your relationship with food.
Relationships: If you’ve got relationships to mend, it starts with you half of the bargain.
Finances: If your finances are a mess, save first, spend second.
You see where I’m going with this. It’s not about what the world is or isn’t doing for you, it’s about what you are doing to take responsibility for yourself and your place in it.
Your fears hold you back because you’re scared to start. Don’t wait; leap.
Self respect is letting go of self deception.
You are what you are, but you do have the power to change. We refuse to give up the belief that you are in control of what you do next. It starts with the conversation in your brain and goes as far as the quality and dedication of work put into the process and support system you build around you. It starts with self-honesty.
At the end of the day, change your narrative. It’s your story to write.
If you were waiting for a sign to press play on the next phase in your life, this is it.
