We came across this quote yesterday, which is our mindset checklist for the best day ever:
“All you need are these: certainty of judgment in the present moment; action for the common good in the present moment; and an attitude of gratitude in the present moment for anything that comes your way.” – Marcus Aurelius
All in the present moment you…
1) Certainty of judgment
2) Action for the common good
3) Attitude of gratitude
The “present moment” part of his reflection is very important and is the most important part to having the best day ever.
Certainty of Judgement
Let’s start with the certainty of judgement. Your judgment will never be certain if you’re looking into the future. If you’re acting on information you have now, be certain in your decisions. Learn to go with your gut. Trust your intuition.
Action for the Common Good
Secondly, action. Action for the common good means moving your feet to help those around you. Too many stories start with “I should have, I would have, I could have.” Let’s start them with “I did…” The only way we go after what we want is to take action, and a pertinent reflection might be whether our actions benefit the common good.
Attitude for Gratitude
And finally, gratitude. The catch all mindset. It can override challenge, pain, and a victim’s mindset. It reminds us what we do have rather than what we don’t. We can simplify our lives through gratitude, help people feel good through gratitude, and help ourselves stay grounded through gratitude. Be certain of your judgment. Act for the common good. Be grateful. 1-2-3. Thanks, Marcus.
Have the best day ever today.
