We can think of no stronger attitude in the world than ‘curiosity.’ It is the drive to learn, adventure, try new things, be open minded, contemplative, and generally interested in life. It can help you meet new people, stumble upon new ideas, and explore new places.
It may have killed the cat, but it will certainly help you.
Instead of latching onto negative emotions, be curious about them. Why am I feeling anxious? Curiosity will help you interact with your anxiety in a healthier way. Why am I sad today? Happy today? Get curious!
Curiosity is a ‘playful’ way to explore the relationships you have in your life, whether those are relationships with other people, emotions, professional decisions, or new interests. An earnest curiosity in conversations you have with others is endearing; rather than pretending to listen and being on your phone, being genuinely curious about the conversation at hand will show interest and better develop a bond. This sounds self-explanatory, but just watch the table at your next dinner out with friends — half the people will have their heads buried in their Instagram. You’ll stand out, we promise.
Curiosity gives us a better chance at good things happening to us because we are open to them heading in our direction; otherwise, we might just miss them passing by. Curiosity is inviting, meaning it welcomes “happenstance”, chance, and serendipity. It opens the door for new opportunities. If we are actively interested in what is happening around us the world becomes our oyster (rather than a big scary place).
If you want to create the best day ever, get curious. You never know what ‘good’ is waiting for you on the other side of trying something new.
We are so grateful for each and every one of you reading this today. We want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
