First, if you’re reading this in the Northern Hemisphere, we’ve just entered spring. Spring, as a change in season, brings on momentum and a new sense of rhythm to our lives.
Second, we recently discussed this topic of “momentum” on a Live Better client call; how are we setting up our lives (or, in the “micro”, our days) to build a rhythm of positive progress?
Spring is the best season to represent momentum — it is the turning point from dark and cold to light and warm. Things are “in bloom”, just as our opportunities present themselves for the rest of the year.
However, the past year (2020) has created a challenging environment whereby the spring season almost felt like winter and we had all of this promise taken away from us.
7 Questions to Build Momentum
On the other hand, now we’re back in the driver’s seat, but hopefully one where we’re in even more control than usual. We are at the ONE YEAR mark right now from the start of lockdowns, and we have a few questions for you:
-
First, at what “pace” do you want to live your life? Are you going to return to pre-pandemic levels of busyness or are you going to better control your schedule?
-
Second, what can you control this year that you lost control of last year?
-
Third, check in with your physical health – what are you doing well? What can you improve?
-
Similarly, check in with your mental health – what are you doing well? What can you improve?
-
What did you accomplish last year that you couldn’t have accomplished in “normal” times?
-
What can you accomplish this year that you couldn’t have accomplished last year?
-
Last, do you feel accountable to someone or something (other than yourself)? If not, who can this be?
Developing Flow in Your Life
To sum it up, momentum is the driving factor in developing “flow” in your life. Without it, we always feel like we’re starting from scratch. Can you imagine having to start over with your physical fitness each and every day? No way.
Similarly, your “emotional” fitness and mental health work the same way. We need to constantly check in with how we’re doing, amplify what’s working and cut out what’s not, do what is necessary to live the life we want to live and forget the unnecessary.
At the end of the day, the future is exciting and we’re building for that.
So, how’re you creating “momentum” for your future?
